DSV will deploy 10 Windrose electric trucks along the Dallas-Laredo corridor as part of a wider plan to build high-power charging infrastructure for US-Mexico freight.

Mexico’s cross-border freight sector is taking another step toward electrification as DSV prepares to deploy 10 Windrose Technology electric Class 8 trucks along the Interstate 35 corridor connecting Dallas, San Antonio, and Laredo.

The logistics company is developing the operation alongside transportation provider Allogic and charging infrastructure company Greenspace E-Mobility. The trucks will initially operate on the Dallas-Laredo route, which serves as a major gateway for commercial traffic between the United States and Mexico. 

The deployment will be the first commercial fleet activation supported by Greenspace’s planned Electric Highway, a network of charging hubs intended to connect Dallas with Monterrey through I-35 in Texas and Highway 85 in Mexico.

According to Windrose, the initial fleet could eliminate about 1,566t of tailpipe carbon dioxide emissions annually under the project’s current operating assumptions. The calculation is a company estimate and will depend on vehicle utilization, electricity sources, cargo loads, and the diesel trucks displaced by the operation.

Charging Network Targets Cross-Border Operations

The first phase of the project calls for four Green Hubs to begin operating in Texas by 4Q26. These facilities are expected to offer charging capacity ranging from 400kW to the Megawatt Charging System standard, which is being developed for high-power charging of heavy commercial vehicles.

Greenspace plans to incorporate solar generation and battery storage at the hubs to reduce dependence on local grid capacity and support more reliable charging operations. The infrastructure provider will oversee charging development, vehicle deployment support, and broader corridor-electrification initiatives.

The Green Hubs are intended to address one of the principal obstacles to long-haul electric trucking: access to high-power charging infrastructure positioned around freight schedules and operating routes. Unlike urban delivery vehicles, Class 8 trucks require larger batteries, higher charging capacity, and facilities capable of accommodating trailers and extended vehicles.

Windrose says its Gen 2 E700 truck offers more than 400 miles, or about 644km, of real-world range. This would allow the truck to complete the Dallas-Laredo route with a short charging stop in San Antonio, according to the manufacturer.

The company’s future Gen 3 E811 platform is expected to exceed 500 miles of range, which could enable trucks to complete the Texas section without an intermediate stop. These figures are manufacturer projections and may vary depending on cargo weight, driving conditions, speed, weather, and charging availability.

Greenspace describes the broader Electric Highway as a four-phase network of 15 high-power charging hubs connecting Monterrey and Dallas. The company estimates that the corridor supports about US$354 billion in annual trade and 6 million truck crossings per year.

Expansion Planned for Monterrey in 2027

A second phase targeted for 2027 would extend the charging network into Monterrey and toward the Colombia-Nuevo Leon International Bridge. The expansion is expected to include 25 additional Windrose trucks. At that stage, the project partners plan to establish six Green Hubs between Monterrey and Dallas specifically designed for electric Class 8 freight operations. Windrose describes the project as a potential first fully electric cross-border freight route between Mexico and the United States.

The project follows Windrose’s first US truck delivery in April 2026. The company delivered a long-haul electric truck to Allogic and Greenspace in Texas after receiving vehicle certifications in several international markets. Reuters reported that the truck was priced at US$285,000.

Windrose, founded in 2022, is seeking to compete in the emerging long-haul electric truck market. The company says the E700 platform has been homologated across North America, the European Union, South America, Asia, and Oceania, allowing logistics companies to use a standardized vehicle platform across different markets.

For DSV, the deployment introduces battery-electric equipment into one of North America’s busiest freight corridors. The I-35 route links manufacturing and distribution operations in central and northern Mexico with warehouses, border facilities, and consumption centers across Texas.

More than 20,000 trucks travel through the Laredo section of the corridor each day, according to Windrose. The concentration of freight volumes makes the route commercially significant, but it also creates challenges for charging capacity, vehicle scheduling, grid access, and border-crossing predictability.
