Polish prosecutors have opened an investigation into the death of a Polish mother in a suspected Islamist terrorist attack on the sidelines of last weekend’s Pride event in Berlin, the Warsaw prosecutor’s office said on X on Tuesday.

The investigation is being conducted on suspicion of a terrorist attack, the authority said.

Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner said the victim was a Polish national who had been in Berlin with her daughter.

Poland’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday that the adult daughter is being treated in hospital, but her life is not in danger. She has been informed of her mother’s death, the ministry added.

Berlin’s Pride celebrations, known in Germany as Christopher Street Day (CSD), were called off on Saturday evening after a man drove a vehicle into a crowd on the sidelines of the large-scale event.

One woman was killed, and 29 others were injured.

On Sunday evening, the suspected attacker, identified as Abdul B, was shot and killed by police.
