A typical turbine

A Vestas V162-6.2 MW turbine, as an example, is composed of around 88 percent steel, iron and metal materials (e.g. steel, iron, copper, alloys and aluminium), 10 percent composite and polymer materials and the remaining a mixture of electronics, electrical items, lubricants and fluids.

Global annual consumption in 2024

The material consumption for the turbines we produced in 2024 was (amount in 2024 in metric tonnes):

Steel materials (1,110,000)Concrete (186,000)Iron materials (185,000)Glass / carbon composites (105,000)Polymer materials (68,000)Aluminium and alloys (19,000)Electronics / electrics (13,000)Copper and alloys (11,000)Lubricants and fluids (4,000)

with a total of 1,701,000 metric tonnes.
