Chinese robotaxi company WeRide is planning to launch autonomous ride services in Denmark in the first half of 2027 through a partnership with Danish car-sharing operator GreenMobility.
The agreement would make Denmark WeRide’s sixth European market, extending the company’s strategy of working with local fleet operators as it expands its Level 4 autonomous driving technology across the region.
Under the proposed rollout, GreenMobility will operate the service locally while WeRide supplies its latest GXR autonomous vehicle. The companies confirmed the launch remains subject to regulatory approval from Danish authorities.
“GreenMobility will be the local operational partner, drawing on our experience from millions of shared car trips, our data on customer usage patterns and our established relationships with Danish authorities, while WeRide brings its validated Level 4 autonomous driving technology,” GreenMobility Group CEO Kasper Gjedsted told Zag Daily.
Gjedsted said the companies are now focused on securing approvals from the Danish Road Directorate, the Danish Road Traffic Authority and an independent assessor before testing and commercial deployment can begin.
“Launch in H1 2027 remains our target, but it is subject to regulatory approvals,” he said.
GreenMobility currently operates more than 1,500 shared electric vehicles across Copenhagen and Aarhus and will contribute fleet operations, charging, cleaning, customer support and local market expertise, although the company declined to provide further detail on how operational responsibilities will be divided.
For WeRide, Denmark continues a broader European expansion that has recently included Spain, Zurich and Slovakia. The company said it now operates autonomous vehicles in more than 40 cities across 12 countries and has permits to test or deploy autonomous vehicles in eight countries.
Asked about operational arrangements and deployment milestones, the companies said further details on the service will be released as the project progresses.
