Queen Mary wore a mocha-coloured polka-dot silk dress by Diane von Furstenberg, which she paired with a smart gold bracelet and black handbag.
Infanta Elena of Spain represented the House of Bourbon, wearing a blue shirt and floral trousers with a white jacket and a statement rosette brooch, which she paired with a blue clutch bag and an elegant navy fedora. The Duchess of Lugo, who is King Felipe’s sister, has represented her country at the Championships in Aachen a number of times.

Before the opening ceremony commenced, Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein President Stefanie Peters promised a ‘historic evening’, and the pomp and circumstance most certainly did not disappoint.
