A 16-year-old is in custody following the violent death of a schoolboy of the same age in the Danish town of Roskilde, local media reported on Saturday.
The teenager is suspected of having stabbed the 16-year-old to death on the fringes of a school party, Danish broadcaster DR and the Ritzau news agency reported, citing police sources. Roskilde is situated west of the Danish capital, Copenhagen.
According to the reports, the incident took place on Friday near a park where the party is said to have been held.
Ritzau reported that numerous young people had gathered there to celebrate the start of the new school year.
In Denmark, a so-called “Puttefest” is sometimes held at the start of the school year, with new secondary school pupils coming together for large celebrations. These celebrations are sometimes criticized for the large amounts of alcohol consumed.
According to reports, the 16-year-old suffered multiple stab wounds and died in hospital. It is still unclear what led to the incident. However, according to Ritzau, the police believe the attack was preceded by a dispute.
There are currently no indications of links to the criminal underworld. Following a court hearing, the 16-year-old is being held in a youth detention centre. According to media reports, he denies the allegations.
According to Ritzau, minor disturbances occurred on Saturday during the court hearing. Young people reportedly gathered in the courtroom and outside the building, engaging in verbal altercations with the police.
