Warsaw has hired Stan Gideon, a longtime head coach in Texas, to be its new baseball coach, the Tigers announced.

Gideon has won 452 games during a head-coaching career spanning nearly three decades that has seen him lead five different programs. His résumé includes 21 appearances in the state playoffs, six regional appearances and one showing in the state tournament.

“We are excited to welcome Stan Gideon and his family to the Warsaw Tiger family,” Warsaw athletic director Matt Binkerd said in a statement. “Stan’s experience, leadership, knowledge of the game, and commitment to developing young people make him an excellent fit for Warsaw baseball. We believe he will bring a tremendous amount of energy and experience to our student-athletes and our baseball program.”

Gideon recently retired from the Texas high school system and has moved to Indiana to be closer to his daughter’s family. He will arrive in Warsaw by the end of August to meet the returning players.

The Tigers went 12-14 last season, including an 8-6 record in the Northern Lakes Conference that was good for a third-place finish. They are looking for their first sectional title since 2010.
