Uber Eats will introduce delivery robots in Helsinki next week, making Finland the first European Union country where the food delivery platform will use robots for customer orders.

The company said in a release that the robots will start operating on Thursday in central Helsinki. The launch comes as Uber Eats expands its Finnish service to eight more cities, increasing its presence after entering the market earlier this year.

The robots will handle selected food deliveries in the centre of the Finnish capital.

Finland will serve as the first EU market for Uber Eats robot deliveries, according to the company. The move adds automated delivery to a Finnish food delivery sector that has undergone changes during 2026.

Uber Eats started operations in Helsinki, Espoo and Tampere in May. On Wednesday, the company expands its service to Vantaa, Kuopio, Turku, Oulu, Joensuu, Jyväskylä, Lahti and Lappeenranta.

The expansion takes Uber Eats into 11 Finnish cities within months of its market entry. Helsinki will remain the starting point for the robot programme while conventional couriers continue to serve customers across the platform’s operating areas.

Uber Eats entered Finland following Foodora’s withdrawal in February. Foodora said it had struggled to compete with market leader Wolt and would focus on markets where it had a path to the top position.
