Finnish airports handled about 1.9 million passengers in July, the highest monthly passenger total since 2019, according to figures published by Statistics Finland on Wednesday.
Passenger numbers increased by 7 per cent from July 2025, with growth in both domestic and international air travel.
The latest figures mark a continued recovery in Finnish aviation, although passenger volumes remain below levels recorded before the Covid-19 pandemic.
In July 2019, more than 2.3 million passengers travelled through Finnish airports. That was about 400,000 more than in July this year.
“July passenger numbers were the highest since 2019, but there is still some distance to the level before the coronavirus pandemic,” Statistics Finland senior actuary Sami Penttilä said in the agency’s release.
Domestic flight passenger numbers increased by 9 per cent from July last year, while international flight passenger numbers rose by 7 per cent.
The increase extends beyond the summer travel period. Statistics Finland recorded higher passenger volumes during the first seven months of 2026 compared with the same period last year.
“The growth in passenger numbers was not limited to a single month, as figures for the beginning of the year have also been higher compared with previous years,” Penttilä said.
A total of 12.5 million passengers travelled through Finnish airports between January and July, an increase of 6 per cent from the corresponding period in 2025.
Despite the rise, passenger traffic remains below the level recorded before the pandemic. Finnish airports handled about 15.2 million passengers between January and July 2019, around 2.7 million more than during the same months this year.
July is traditionally among the busiest months for air travel in Finland.
