The 704-megawatt Revolution Wind offshore wind farm, located approximately 15 miles south of the Rhode Island coast, is more than 95% complete and remains on schedule to achieve full commercial operation by the end of 2026, according to an update from developer Ørsted.
In its recent half-year results presentation, Ørsted Chief Executive Rasmus Errboe reported that 61 of the project’s 65 Siemens Gamesa 11 MW turbines have been fully installed. The remaining four turbines are expected to be installed in the coming months.
The project began delivering power to the New England electric grid in March 2026, when it stood at roughly 90% complete, and generation continues to ramp up. Once fully operational, Revolution Wind will have a peak capacity of 704 MW, reportedly enough to power approximately 350,000 homes.
Construction and assembly activities have been staged primarily from the State Pier in New London, Connecticut. Revolution Wind is a 50/50 joint venture between Ørsted and Skyborn Renewables.
The project previously faced two stop-work orders issued by the federal government in 2025 citing national security concerns related to military radar. In both instances, developers successfully obtained court relief. A preliminary injunction issued by US District Judge Royce C. Lamberth in January 2026 remains in place, staying and enjoining enforcement of the second stop-work order pending the conclusion of related legal proceedings.
Construction has continued under that court protection, enabling the project to reach its current advanced stage of completion.
“It continues to be a key priority for us to deliver on our construction portfolio, and we’re very pleased with the milestones we’ve reached,” Errboe said in connection with the company’s results.
