The Danish Football Association, known as DBU, has openly renounced its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, vowing to pursue alternative leadership for world soccer’s governing body ahead of the 2023 presidential election. The DBU claims Infantino’s failed proposal to sell commercial stakes in FIFA tournaments has triggered a ‘crisis of confidence’ among global football federations.
During a board meeting, the DBU emphasized its commitment to collaborating with UEFA and international colleagues to ensure a reliable alternative for the 2027 FIFA presidential election. Despite Infantino’s apologies and continued backing from some regions, the DBU demands a leader capable of uniting FIFA and restoring credibility.
While Infantino seeks a fourth term until 2031, there’s growing pressure from European, Asian, and North American confederations calling for his resignation. The DBU has also issued a boycott threat, asserting non-participation in FIFA tournaments without assurances against opening governance to private investors again.
