International Human Rights Day Marked in Vilnius with Event Dedicated to Tibet

Vilnius, Lithuania: On 10 December 2025, the Tibet Support Group in Lithuania, along with the association “for Tibet”, jointly organised a special film screening of the feature film “State of Statelessness“ at the “Skalvija” cinema in Vilnius. The film is composed of four stories, each directed by Tibetan filmmakers Tenzin Tsetan Choklay, Sonam Tseten, Tsering Tashi Gyalthang, Tenzing Sonam and Ritu Sarin, united by a common theme: the lives of Tibetans in forced emigration, far from their homeland. The movie reveals the dramatic and poignant reality and the diverse fates of this dispersed nation. This is a traditional event for Tibet supporters that has been organised for a decade. Each year, it serves as a reminder of the occupation of Tibet, which has deprived Tibetans of all their rights. Furthermore, these events aim to pay attention to exiles who face the loss of identity and are forced to live without a state—a theme reflected in the title of this year’s film.

The film screening was introduced by Konstantinas Andrijauskas, Associate Professor of Asian Studies and International Politics at Vilnius University Institute of International Relations and Political Science, and Robertas Mažeika, a member of the Tibetan Support Group.

The film attracted several active Tibet supporters, residents, and guests of the capital. The event was also attended by the honourable Lithuanian Parliament member, Jurgita Sejonienė.

“The necessity of looking at the situation and history of nations that have lost their statehood in the current context is immediately relevant. Especially for us, who seemingly gained our independence only recently.” Konstantinas Andrijauskas.

As part of the ongoing Year of Compassion activities in Lithuania, Tibet supporter Rūta Norkutė organised in her family’s personal gallery a photo exhibition, dedicated to the 2018 visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Lithuania, which opened on 24 November 2025, curated by the famous photographer and Tibet supporter Rytis Šeškaitis. The exhibition runs until the end of this year.
