
According to him, the water level has risen significantly on the November 11th waterfront under the Stone Bridge. Traffic there is currently difficult, but it is possible that access will have to be completely closed. A similar situation has developed under the Island Bridge.
Water is being pumped out on several streets and sections of roads. Work is being carried out on Malpils, Daugavgrivas, Mores, Verdinu, Gobas, Plekshnes, Piena, Sermulinu, Lutrinju streets, as well as on Ostas Avenue.
Ratnieks also reported that by this time, 76 incidents related to bad weather have been registered in Riga.
In most cases, it concerns flooded roadways. In some areas, the water has already been pumped out, while in others, work is ongoing.
In addition, water has penetrated the basements of certain buildings and the first floors of houses. Due to the bad weather, one tree has also fallen, and one large branch has broken.
According to Ratnieks, Riga is currently coping with the consequences of the heavy rain relatively calmly.
As reported earlier, a storm and very heavy rains are forecasted for Latvia on Saturday. The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC) has issued yellow, orange, and red warnings due to strong winds and intense precipitation in Riga and other regions of the country.
Due to adverse weather conditions, a number of outdoor events planned across Latvia have been canceled.
