Copenhagen is sending a message of unity as pressure mounts for Moscow to change course and accept a path toward peace.
Denmark will continue to support Ukraine financially and militarily, while also advocating for increased international pressure on Russia. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who chaired the meeting, stated this during a UN Security Council session marking Ukraine’s Independence Day.

Denmark Supports Stronger Sanctions Against Russia
Lars Løkke Rasmussen stressed that the European Union has already approved a new package of sanctions against Russia. In his view, the restrictive measures should increase pressure on Moscow and force it to return to the negotiating table.
We have no choice but to increase the pressure as long as Russia refuses to end its brutal military actions.

Call for an Unconditional Ceasefire in Ukraine
Denmark’s foreign minister called on Russia to end its war against Ukraine and agree to an unconditional ceasefire. He stressed that this could be a step toward peaceful coexistence with neighboring countries.
Denmark calls on Russia to abandon this senseless war and accept an unconditional ceasefire in order to find a way to live peacefully with its neighbors.

More than 50 UN member states also supported the position that a full and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine is necessary. They called on Russia to halt hostilities and move toward a peaceful settlement.
