A celebration in Sweden combined music and solidarity with a quiet tribute to those whose lives were lost defending Ukraine.
Events marking the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence were held in Stockholm. The programme included a march, a concert, and a ceremony honouring Ukrainians who lost their lives.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson addressed the community
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson spoke at the event. Other speakers included Mikael Damberg, a representative of the Social Democratic Party; Svitlana Zalishchuk, Ukraine’s ambassador to Sweden; Nils Håkanson, a translator of Ukrainian literature; and actress and director Marika Lagercrantz.
Participants expressed their gratitude to Sweden for its support of Ukraine. The speeches emphasised the importance of unity in the struggle for Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty.
Concert and commemoration of fallen Ukrainians
Ukrainian choirs, musical groups, and performers took part in the festive programme. A separate part of the events was a ceremony commemorating Ukrainians who lost their lives.
The Independence Day event in Stockholm was organised by Ukrainian volunteer organisations and civic initiatives in cooperation with the Embassy of Ukraine in Sweden.
