Greenland-US Negotiations Still Underway, Says Foreign Minister
Copenhagen, 2 Sep 2026 (ONA) — Greenland’s Foreign Minister,
Mute Egede, has confirmed that negotiations with the United States regarding
the future of the Arctic island remain ongoing.
Speaking during a debate at the European Parliament today,
Greenland’s Foreign Minister stated: “Officials are working hard to
resolve the situation. Unfortunately, I cannot share details of those talks,
but what I can tell you is that our dialogue is ongoing”.
US President Donald Trump’s assertions that the United States
must acquire Greenland—a semi-autonomous Danish territory—have sparked tensions
between Washington and Copenhagen, both founding members of NATO, and have
raised broader concerns across Europe, although the issue has since moved to a
diplomatic track.
