DSV is expanding its Air ThermoDirect network with a new direct connection between Luxembourg and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG).
The new service strengthens DSV’s temperature-controlled air freight network and targets growing demand from the pharmaceutical sector.
The company also plans to add further Air ThermoDirect connections to the United States.
Direct freighter flights connect Luxembourg and Shanghai
The new connection will operate through multiple departures using dedicated freighter aircraft.
According to DSV, this setup gives the company greater control over schedules, routing and cargo handling.
Shanghai Pudong is an important gateway for temperature-controlled pharmaceutical cargo. The new connection will support both inbound and outbound healthcare shipments between Asia and international markets.
DSV strengthens pharmaceutical logistics in China
DSV is working with Eastern Air Logistics to support the new operation in Shanghai.
Eastern Air Logistics will provide specialised ground handling facilities, while China Eastern Logistics Cold Chain will provide cold chain infrastructure and expertise.
“This is not just an expansion of our temperature-controlled network. It is a strategic gateway to Greater China and the broader Asian market,” said Kenneth Kallström, EVP, Global Enterprise Vertical Head, Healthcare at DSV.
He added that the expansion aims to improve the reliability and efficiency of pharmaceutical supply chains across Asia.
Air ThermoDirect targets more flexible cold chain operations
DSV’s Air ThermoDirect solution uses modular thermal packaging for temperature-sensitive shipments.
The system reduces reliance on active containers and traditional passive packaging.
DSV said the approach can provide a more flexible and scalable solution while meeting pharmaceutical handling requirements.
The company also uses reusable thermal packaging as part of the service, aiming to reduce packaging waste across its cold chain operations.
