At the hotel where all FIBA Women’s World Cup teams were staying, except Team USA, the fire alarm went off during the night, forcing an immediate evacuation of the building.

An unusual incident disrupted the night for nearly all teams competing at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin, Germany.

According to Sky Sport, every team except Team USA, which is staying at a different hotel, was woken up during the night after a fire alarm forced an immediate evacuation of the building.

Hotel management later explained that someone had activated the fire alarm manually. The hotel apologized for the incident, describing it as “beyond our control,” and asked guests not to trigger the alarm unless there is an actual emergency.

Team USA’s opponent affected by overnight evacuation

The incident comes ahead of another busy day at the World Cup, with eight teams scheduled to take the court.

Among them is Italy, which was affected by the overnight evacuation and is set to face Team USA later tonight.

The Italy-USA matchup is scheduled to tip off at 8:45 p.m. local time in Berlin, which is 2:45 p.m. ET.

It will be the second game of the tournament for both teams. Italy opened its World Cup campaign with a win over Czechia, while Team USA cruised past China in its first game.
