A Warsaw man will spend more than 15 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm as an armed career criminal.

Federal prosecutors say 47-year-old Jason Waikel was sentenced to 15 years and eight months behind bars, followed by four years of supervised release.

The case began after Warsaw police investigated a July 2025 report of gunfire coming from a moving vehicle. Waikel was identified as a person of interest in the investigation.

Authorities later searched his vehicle and found a bullet hole in the driver’s-side portion of the trunk. A search of a storage unit connected to Waikel uncovered four firearms.

According to court documents, Waikel later acknowledged that he fired the shots involved in the July incident.
