Amsterdam-born artist Godgiven Buthelezi has won Song of the Year at the 13th Independent National Gospel Music Awards (Ingoma), marking a major milestone in his gospel music journey.
Now based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, Buthelezi received the award with Godgiven Voices, comprising Philani Cele and Qiniso Gumede, for their breakthrough song, ‘Noma Ngina Zero’.
His musical journey began at Ithole Primary School in Amsterdam, where he sang at school assemblies.
He later performed at Nganana Secondary School and formed the group BK with his late friend Herbert Sandile Maseko.
While studying at Lindile High School in Ermelo, Buthelezi experienced a spiritual transformation and moved from secular music towards gospel.
Today, he works as a recording artist, songwriter, producer, worshipper and minister.
His music combines gospel, R&B, soul, urban and contemporary influences, focusing on faith, hope, perseverance and purpose.
‘Noma Ngina Zero’ has received radio exposure on several stations, including Ukhozi FM, Umhlobo Wenene FM, Ligwalagwala FM, Power 98.7, Kaya 959, Rise FM and Capricorn FM.
Buthelezi also founded GGP Radio Airplay and GGP TV Airplay to help independent musicians gain exposure and promote their music.
Following the Ingoma win, Godgiven Voices is focusing on its latest project, ‘TikTok (Let Them Talk)’.
