The meeting will take place at the Latvian National Museum of Writing and Music. Specialists from various countries will come to the Latvian capital, including representatives from the Paris Philharmonic, the Musical Instrument Museum in Brussels, and Brazil’s Virtual Museum of Musical Instruments. Some foreign experts will join the event remotely.
The main topics of the meeting will be the preservation and study of musical instruments, their restoration, storage, and the digitization of museum collections. Participants will present their projects, exchange professional experiences, and discuss issues related to the origins of archival materials.
For Latvia, hosting the MIMO meeting is of particular significance. In the autumn of 2025, the Latvian National Museum of Writing and Music became the first among museums in the Baltic States to join the international network. As a result, digital data about items from its collection became accessible through the international platform.
As part of the program, foreign guests will get acquainted with the work of the Latvian museum. They will visit its main exhibition “Procrastination and Creativity,” the Song Festival space, as well as the museum’s storage.
The organizers hope that the international meeting will expand cooperation between Latvian specialists and their foreign colleagues and help make collections of musical instruments from Latvia more visible to researchers and the general audience abroad.
