Brussels Airport is moving ahead with an extensive renovation of the Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel, with the four-star property set to receive upgrades to its guestrooms, public spaces, restaurant, façade and technical infrastructure.

The project will be carried out in phases over the next two years, with the hotel remaining open throughout the renovation.

Initial work on the building’s façade began during summer 2026. Major structural works are scheduled to start in mid-2027, while the entire renovation is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.

Located directly opposite the airport terminal, the Sheraton has been serving Brussels Airport passengers for more than 35 years.

New glass gallery and redesigned public spaces

One of the most visible changes will be the construction of a new glass gallery covering the reception and restaurant area.

The new structure will bring additional natural light into the property while increasing the size of the existing lobby. The enlarged space will be divided into different hospitality areas intended for hotel guests as well as other airport visitors.

The hotel’s restaurant will also undergo a complete redesign.

All guestrooms are due to be refurbished as part of the project, while the property’s accommodation capacity will also increase.

Meeting rooms currently occupying the hotel’s top floor will be converted into additional executive rooms. Brussels Airport said the expansion is intended to address high occupancy levels and prepare for future demand for accommodation at the airport.

Sustainability upgrades planned

The renovation will extend beyond the hotel’s guest-facing areas.

Electrical and ventilation systems will be modernised as part of a broader upgrade to the building’s technical infrastructure.

The roof will also be renovated, with Brussels Airport expecting the work to deliver a significant improvement in the hotel’s energy efficiency.

“The Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel has been part of the airport since its opening in 1989,” said Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport.

“With this renovation, we will offer a state-of-the-art hotel facility to our guests thanks to fully refurbished, comfortable and modern rooms and a new glass gallery with enhanced dining experience.”

Hotel to remain open during renovation

The construction programme has been divided into phases to allow the Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel to continue operating throughout the project.

Some sections of the property may be temporarily closed or used for different purposes as construction progresses, but Brussels Airport said measures will be taken to minimise disruption to guests.

The hotel first opened in 1989, under the management of Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

Marriott International took over its operations and management in 2017, while Brussels Airport Company has owned the hotel building since 2019.

Over its more than three decades of operation, the property has become a major accommodation option for airport passengers, airline crews and business travellers due to its location immediately opposite the terminal.

The latest investment forms part of Brussels Airport’s plans to improve its hotel offering while increasing capacity and improving the property’s energy performance ahead of anticipated future demand.
