Amsterdam Police arrested a man in connection with a stabbing.
AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (WNYT) – An Amsterdam man has been charged in a stabbing from last July.
Amsterdam Police said officers responded to the area of Elizabeth Street on July 20 for a report of a stabbing. The victim had stab wounds in the stomach, according to investigators. He was treated on scene and taken to Albany Medical Center.
Amsterdam Police, State Police and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office interviewed witnesses in the neighborhood and reviewed security camera footage near the incident.
The investigation led to the arrest of 47-year-old Erick Vazquez-Sifontes last week.
Vazquez-Sifontes was charged with first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
He was arraigned in Amsterdam City Council and sent to Montgomery County Jail with bail set at $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond.
