WARSAW, Ind. (WNDU) – A Rochester man was killed Monday night after being hit by a semi-truck while trying to retrieve cargo that had fallen from his pickup truck on U.S. 30 in Warsaw.
The crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of U.S. 30 at Meijer Drive, according to our reporting partners at the Times-Union.
Police said 69-year-old Randy Williams of Rochester was outside his Ford F-150 retrieving and securing cargo that had fallen from the bed of his pickup truck when he was hit by a Kenworth T680 tractor-trailer.
According to police, Williams’ truck was parked on the shoulder and was not on the travel portion of U.S. 30 when the crash happened. The tractor-trailer was driven by a 30-year-old Wisconsin man.
The Kosciusko County coroner determined Williams’ cause of death to be blunt force trauma.
The crash remains under investigation.
