On February 19, the first consular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia were held in Riga, the capital of Latvia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.

XİN-dən APA-ya verilən xəbərə görə, məsləhətləşmələrdə Azərbaycan nümayəndə heyətinə Azərbaycan Respublikası Xarici İşlər Nazirliyinin Konsulluq İdarəsinin rəisi Emil Səfərov, Latviya nümayəndə heyətinə isə Latviya Respublikasının Xarici İşlər Nazirliyinin Konsulluq və Diplomatik Məsələlər Direktoratlığının baş direktoru xanım Agnese Kalnina rəhbərlik edib.

The Azerbaijani delegation was headed by Emil Safarov, Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, while the Latvian delegation was led by Agnese Kalnina, Director General of the Consular and Diplomatic Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia.

The Latvian delegation also included representatives of the State Border Guard and the Migration Office of Latvia.

A representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan also participated in the meeting.

During the consultations, the parties reviewed the current state and future prospects of cooperation in the consular sphere between Azerbaijan and Latvia, which is a strategic partner for Azerbaijan. They also discussed the signing of new bilateral documents and opportunities for the digitalization of consular services.

In addition to consular matters, the sides exchanged views on expanding multilateral and bilateral cooperation in the fields of justice, law enforcement, prosecution, migration, and education.

Subsequently, the delegation was received by Kaspars Abolins, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior of Latvia. During the meeting, issues related to strengthening cooperation between the internal affairs bodies of the two countries and developing the relevant legal framework were discussed.
