Wolt has launched change negotiations in Finland that affect up to 45 roles, with a reduction need of no more than 30 positions. The talks cover international staff based in Finland and exclude couriers. At the same time, the company will close operations in Japan and Uzbekistan after a review of its global business strategy.

The food delivery platform said the talks relate to changes in its international structure. The aim is to simplify its operating model and clarify decision making across markets.

Wolt employs more than 15,000 people in 30 countries. Around 1,500 staff work in Finland. The talks concern international personnel in Finland. They do not apply to the company’s 10,000 couriers in the country.

Marianne Vikkula, chief executive of Wolt, said the group has expanded its office workforce at pace. “In the past two years alone, we have hired more than 5,000 employees to Wolt offices around the world. In growth of this scale, we must also renew our organisational structures along the way. Our sector moves fast, and speed and decision making are central,” she said in a statement.

Wolt operates as part of the United States based DoorDash group. DoorDash acquired Deliveroo last year. Following the latest review, Deliveroo will withdraw from Singapore and Qatar.

Earlier this year, Foodora, Wolt’s only direct rival in Finland, announced that it will leave the country at the end of February. That exit leaves Wolt without a direct competitor for a period. Uber Eats has stated that it plans to expand its presence in Finland later this year.
