King Frederick and Queen Mary of Denmark hosted a New Year’s Eve party at the Amalienborg Palace, and the Danish royals showed up in style. But rather than sequins, the sparkles came from their historic jewels. Queen Mary’s tiara, however, is rather unique, being that it is both new and old.

For the special occasion, the Australian-born queen wore her Diamond Bandeau Tiara, which she had fashioned from an old diamond necklace sourced from the Danish Crown Jewels at Rosenborg Castle in 2024. According to the Royal House of Denmark, “the rose stone set was created in 1840 as a chain that is mounted around a corseted waist with the large pendant, the corsage, in the middle. The pendant can be divided and used separately as independent brooches.”

The rose-cut Diamond Parure first belonged to Princess Charlotte Amalie, a sister of King Christian VI. Per the Royal Watcher, after World War II, “Queen Ingrid wore the Diamond Girdle as a Necklace on a couple of occasions with the Danish Emerald Parure, while Queen Margrethe only wore the Diamond Corsage, for her 50th Birthday in 1990 and the Norwegian State Visit in 1991.”

Queen Mary also stepped out in support of Danish designers, wearing a champagne-hued ensemble comprised of a lace top from Copenhagen-based designer Lasse Spangenberg with a flowing skirt by Jesper Høvring.
