A clear and adequate budget for all regions; respect for regional specificities in implementing European strategic priorities; simplification of regulations and reduction of administrative burdens. These are the priorities indicated by the Vice President and Councilor for Economic Development of the Lazio Region, Roberta Angelilli, to the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission and responsible for cohesion policies Raffaele Fitto. Angelilli, by delegation of the president Francesco Rocca, He led the Lazio Region delegation to Brussels, where an important summit between the regions participating in Power Regions of Europe and Executive Vice President Fitto was held at the headquarters of the Free State of Bavaria. The central theme of the meeting was the construction of a modern cohesion policy for 2028-2034.

“We fully support the Power Regions of Europe position paper,” Angelilli stated. “Geopolitical and economic challenges require a stronger European response, without compromising or weakening the central role of the regions. Cohesion policy must become more efficient and concrete, in full compliance with the principle of subsidiarity, ensuring that European policies remain close to citizens, businesses, and regions. We need a stronger European response to geopolitical and economic challenges,” Angelilli emphasized. Among investments, clear rules, and autonomy, the Lazio Region has highlighted three key points. Specifically, a clear and guaranteed financial framework—that is, long-term investments require certain funding for all regions. Furthermore, regional autonomy—Europe defines strategic priorities, but the regions must translate them into concrete results, avoiding excessive centralization and bureaucracy. Finally, clear and simple rules: reduced administrative burdens and technical support from the Commission are essential to ensuring effective investment and balanced growth.

During their visit to Brussels, the Lazio Region delegation had a busy agenda of institutional meetings. This morning, Vice President Angelilli held a lengthy meeting with the Commissioner’s Cabinet. Ekaterina ZaharievaAlso on the agenda are institutional meetings with the Directorate-General for Defense, Space, and Energy, the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union, the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), and Confindustria. “I thank Vice President Fitto for reassuring the assembly, underscoring his commitment to keeping the regions at the heart of the European agenda, with regard to the reform of cohesion policy and the debate on the financial framework for the 2028-2034 European programming period,” Angelilli added.

“Vice President Fitto’s approach was also appreciated by everyone: for the first time, a strategic dialogue has been initiated with the regions to share strategies and make the local area an active participant in the decision-making process,” Angelilli explained. “This approach has already been successfully used for the reprogramming of European funds during the mid-term review, with the Lazio Region taking advantage of this significant opportunity to implement new projects worth over €240 million for social housing, competitiveness, and water efficiency.”
