On March 2, the rental season for micromobility vehicles – electric scooters and bicycles – starts in Vilnius. Sharing services returning to the city streets with spring will invite residents and guests of the capital to choose comfortable, fast and environmentally friendly trips. At the same time, we would like to remind you of an important safety change – from this year, all drivers of electric micromobility vehicles will be required to wear a helmet while driving.

In expanding sustainable mobility opportunities in Vilnius, special attention is paid to the integration of micromobility infrastructure into the overall urban mobility system. Currently, 18 out of 21 JUDU neighborhoods in the capital have already installed about 800 parking spaces for micromobility vehicles.

“Our goal is to create infrastructure that allows you to move around the city easily, safely and comfortably. By consistently expanding the network of parking spaces and integrating micromobility into the overall transportation system, we encourage city residents and guests to move more sustainably and contribute to creating a cleaner and more convenient capital,” says Jurgita Gaidienė, Head of Customer Value Creation at JUDU.

The city is more convenient to move around

Parking spaces for electric scooters and bicycles have been planned according to clear principles this year. They have been selected after assessing the flow of residents in densely populated areas and near major attractions, so that starting or ending a trip is simple and convenient. Residents can find all parking spaces on the interactive micromobility traffic organization map.

Parking spaces are reserved for sharing platforms.Boltand Ride users.

“JUDU parking spaces are installed using universal design solutions so that they do not interfere with pedestrian flows and are comfortable for all traffic participants – people with disabilities, parents with wheelchairs, and elderly residents. It is important to remember that micromobility devices can only be parked in places specifically designated for this purpose,” notes J. Gaidienė.

These places on the asphalt are marked with a special rectangular sign with a scooter and the letter “P” in the middle. Scooters must be parked flush with the boundary of the lot or next to vehicles already parked. Proper parking ensures efficient use of space and an aesthetic urban environment.

It is important to remember safety

JUDU also reminds that from this year, the requirement to wear a helmet when riding electric bicycles and scooters has come into effect. It is also important to adhere to the principles of responsible and safe riding: move only on bicycle paths, do not ride on sidewalks, and do not carry passengers on scooters – this is prohibited.

“It should also be noted that weather conditions in early spring can be changeable and very unpredictable – morning frosts occur, snow may still fall or slush may form. Residents are urged to choose a safe speed, be careful and assess the road surface,” reminds a JUDU representative.

According to the Road Traffic Regulations, an electric micro-mobility vehicle, such as an electric scooter, is permitted to be used on bicycle paths and lanes, on the roadside, on the carriageway and in residential areas by persons aged 16 and over. Persons aged 14 and over may use these vehicles only after completing a training course established by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports and having a school certificate confirming this.
