The Warsaw Central School District is canceling the rest of its JV and varsity basketball season due to an ongoing investigation.

The district says it received new information amid an investigation into several middle/high school students that may prompt a separate investigation.

The district says the decision to cancel the season will help maintain the integrity of the programs.

District leaders say they are working with law enforcement and the Warsaw District Attorney’s Office on the matter, however, they did not release any specific information on what prompted the investigation and the cancellation of the basketball season.

Wyoming County District Attorney Vincent Hemming released a statement to Spectrum News 1 on Friday, saying:

“My Office is aware of an incident at the Warsaw Central School District.  The Warsaw Police Department, along with my Office, is looking into this incident.  Given the age of the individuals involved, I am unable to comment further.”
