Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya visited the “Prytuliai Mianie” shelter for former political prisoners in Warsaw. She met with its founder, former political prisoner, and co-founder of the “Prytuliai Mianie” Foundation, Hanna Fedaronak; toured the facility; familiarized herself with its space and conditions; and spoke with the residents.

The meeting focused on the shelter’s most urgent needs and ways to support its continued operation. Former political prisoners shared their stories and described the conditions they endured while imprisoned. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s team delivered essential household items to the shelter.

The Belarusian shelter in Warsaw is a temporary safe space for people recently released from prison who have to start their lives anew. Residents can receive housing for up to two months, necessary items, and basic food assistance.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “It is crucial that people who have been through prison are not left alone when they are released. After incarceration, they need not only safety but also human support, understanding, and time and space to regain their strength and begin a new chapter in life. Thank you to everyone who runs and supports the shelter. Your work gives hope and helps people feel that they are not alone on the path to recovery”.
