Denmark’s TV 2 group is significantly increasing its fiction production, more than doubling output alongside the growth of its streaming platform TV 2 Play.

“Our investments in Danish scripted are now at the highest level ever,” Lotte Lindegaard, content director at TV 2, told MediaWatch.

A key focus for the broadcaster is so-called “profile series,” which aim to stand out through distinctive themes, settings, or innovative storytelling approaches. These complement TV 2’s established slate of long-running, broad-appeal dramas such as Sommerdahl and Sygeplejeskolen.

TV 2 is also actively seeking to broaden its genre mix. Most recently, the network has been looking for a new comedy series to diversify its portfolio. “We want to offer different moods and genres in our repertoire,” Lindegaard said.

In the past, TV 2 would launch an average of three new fiction series annually. Today, that figure has risen to between seven and eight, with 11 productions scheduled for release this year. The broadcaster intends to maintain this elevated pace.

Despite TV 2’s increased investment, broader industry data points to uncertainty. According to the Danish Producers Association, overall investment in Danish fiction remains unclear heading into 2026.

Rasmus Venø Andersen, head of Insights at the Danish Producers Association, highlighted that more than half of the expected investments this year are tied to projects that have yet to be finalised. Commissioners are taking longer to approve projects, with around 30% of undecided projects unlikely to materialise.

“There’s significant pressure on producers – both financially and in terms of planning and staffing,” Andersen wrote on LinkedIn.
