Riveiro’s made an indifferent start to his AIK tenure with two wins and two defeats in his first four games since taking charge in December last year.

All four games have come in the Swedish Cup, and with the Swedish Allsvenskan running through the calendar year, the Spaniard is preparing for his first league game after the March international break. Riveiro will be hoping to lead AIK to a seventh league title, and first since 2018.

Riveiro spoke to Swedish outlet Sportbladet, and he was asked about how Swedish sides can improve in Europe.

Riveiro said, “Training facilities. We need better, more and our own.”

This comes after Norwegian side Bodo Glimt enjoyed a fairytale run in the UEFA Champions League, eliminating Inter Milan and beating Manchester City en route to the Round of 16.

The ex-Bucs boss added that it was important for all clubs across the country to have a better opportunity to compete on the continent.

“Everyone can do better on that front in general,” the 50-year-old explained.

“I’m not just talking about AIK. It’s time for the clubs to take steps forward. That’s my opinion. As a professional, you want a good environment to train continuously and with quality. That’s probably one of the things that football here can improve the most,” he added.
