Goalball club Nikšić failed to qualify for the Champions League final tournament. The Nikšić team was defeated by Turkish team Cankaja 12:4 in the match for third place in the qualifying tournament in Niš today.

Coach Nikola Čurović’s team was not at its best in the match leading up to the season finale in Berlin. With mistakes made at the start of the match, they allowed their rival to break away and gain an advantage, which they managed to increase by the end.

They lost to the same rival in the group stage, and ended their performance at the qualifying tournament in Niš with two wins and four losses.

“The long break we took after the European Championship left its mark. We are in bad shape, we played without strength and energy. We have to work hard so that we can welcome the next European Championship more prepared and competitive,” said coach Čurović.

The Finnish Old Power and the Turkish teams Nilufer and Cankaja qualified for the final tournament from the qualifications in Niš.

Also playing in Berlin will be Sweden’s Gothenburg, Britain’s Fen Tigers, Portugal’s Atlético e Cultural, Denmark’s Aarhus, Poland’s Kraków and Hansa from Rostock.

The tournament is scheduled from September 16 to 20.
