Berlin calls on China to use its influence on Hormuz

The German Foreign Ministry announced that the department’s head, Johann Wadeful, had a telephone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to discuss the tense situation in the Middle East.

The parties agreed on the need to maintain freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and stressed that individual states should not control sea lanes or impose fees for passage.

Officials in Berlin called on China to use its influence over Iran to push for a negotiated solution and to stop hostile actions against the Gulf countries. The German side expressed hope that joint efforts between the two powers would contribute to an early resolution of the conflict.
