“We need to talk about the party with colleagues. […] I can neither confirm nor deny [potential coalition talks],” Skvernelis told reporters on Tuesday.

The MP said his party did not have a position whether or not to join the ruling coalition again.

Meanwhile, Social Democratic Parliament Speaker Juozas Olekas stated that the coalition consisting of the LSDP, the Nemunas Dawn and the Farmers and Greens (LVŽS) would continue operating “as long as the right decisions are made”.

However, Olekas added that the coalition is always looking for new partners.

LSDP leader Mindaugas Sinkevičius stressed that the ruling coalition is independent to adopt decisions by itself. In an interview to the radio station Žinių radijas on Tuesday, he commented the president’s suggestion to consider alternatives to the current coalition.

According to the LSDP leader, time would tell whether the president’s statements would be taken into account.

Chairman of the LVŽS parliamentary political group, Jaroslav Narkevič, said there was no reason to discuss changes in the coalition and the party had not talked about this.

As reported, numerous Nemunas Dawn lawmakers recently voted against the creation of a new military training area in Kapčiamiestis, which is crucial for Lithuania’s national security as the country plans to establish a division-sized unit.

After the vote, President Gitanas Nausėda told TV3 that the Social Democratic party, the major coalition party, should consider alternatives and not delay any longer.

The head of state said he could hardly understand a coalition that was guided by different values.

Democrats For Lithuania had been part of the coalition with the LSDP and the Nemunas Dawn following the 2024 parliamentary election.

However, after the resignation of Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas in July 2025, the LSDP Council decided to form the new coalition with the Nemunas Dawn and the LVŽS, and the Cabinet was led by Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė.
