Troy Parrott will be wondering how he hasn’t been credited with a 23rd goal of the season.
AZ Alkmaar were 1-0 up against Ajax Amsterdam on Sunday afternoon when Parrott, late in the second-half, looked to have headed home their second.
After lengthy celebrations, the referee went over to his monitor and, having reviewed the goal, he chalked it off.
To add insult to injury, Ajax scored an injury-time equaliser to take a point back to the capital.
Parrott only a few weeks ago scored a sensational hat-trick against the Dutch giants in a 6-0 KNVB Cup romp – his first treble since Ireland’s World Cup qualification win in Hungary.
He was visibly frustrated by the decision in Sunday’s Eredivisie clash to deny him another goal against the team that this season is struggling to keep pace in the title race.
He was flagged for offside by the man in the middle after a VAR review – but replays only added to the confusion.
Parrott was clearly behind the last defender as he ran onto a flick and headed the ball into the back of the net.
He WAS standing in an offside position as a free-kick came in from the right, but he was back onside by the time the ball was flicked into his path.
