AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (WNYT)- A man faces grand larceny and burglary charges after police say they linked him to break-ins, an attempted break-in and reports of items taken from parked vehicles in Amsterdam, according to the Amsterdam Police Department.

The Amsterdam Police Department and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said David H. Dugan was arrested April 8, accused of two separate crimes in the Town of Amsterdam.
Sheriff’s deputies said during the overnight hours of March 29, Dugan allegedly entered the garage of a home but left, after a family dog scared him off. They say he returned to the same home during the overnight hours of April 8 and tried to get inside again.
Police and sheriff’s deputies also investigated reports between March 29 and April 8 of a man taking items from vehicles in the early morning hours near Clizbe Avenue.
Police said those thefts happened in the city of Amsterdam and the neighboring town of Amsterdam. They said investigators obtained surveillance videos from the public and identified Dugan as the suspect.
On April 8, Amsterdam police officers and detectives found Dugan at his home and took him into custody on one count of Fourth Degree Grand Larceny in connection with the vehicle thefts.

He was taken to the Amsterdam Police Department for processing and then turned over to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for the pending burglary charges.
Dugan was arraigned in Minden Town Court and sent to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail. He is scheduled to appear in Amsterdam Town Court at a later date for further proceedings.
