TOWN OF STOCKHOLM, New York (WWNY) – The investigation continues into the cause of a fire that destroyed a St. Lawrence County home last week.
Firefighters were called to 2705 County Route 49 in the town of Stockholm last Thursday at 5:35 p.m.
Brasher-Winthrop Fire Department First Assistant Chief Eric Bedard said a passerby spotted the blaze and helped the man who lived there escape safely.
He said strong winds spread the flames quickly, destroying a nearby car and camper, and touching off a blaze in a nearby field and wooded area.
Volunteers from Potsdam, West Stockholm, Norfolk, Norwood, and Lawrenceville fire departments were also called to help battle the flames. It took about 5 hours to put out the fire.
No injuries were reported.
Bedard said the home was not insured.
