Two of the fastest men in the world will go head-to-head over 200 metres this summer: Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo of Botswana and U20 world record holder Gout Gout of Australia are scheduled to headline the Oslo Diamond League on June 10.
Gout, 18, set his world best at the 2026 Australian Athletics Championships on Sunday, where he clocked 19.67 seconds, lowering his previous personal best (20.02) by .35 seconds and the previous U20 record of 19.69, held by Erriyon Knighton, by .02 seconds. This will be Gout’s Diamond League debut, signifying an important step in the young sprinter’s professional career.
Tebogo, 22, became the 200m Olympic champion in Paris in 2024, running 19.46. The time also set a new African record and marked the fifth fastest on the global all-time list, solidifying himself near the top of the sprint leaderboards.

The Bolt comparison
When Gout started to make a name for himself in the 200m world, sprint legend Usain Bolt took to social media to say, “He looks like a young me.” Gout’s tall frame and fast times have drawn repeated comparisons to Bolt, and some predict he could one day eclipse him. His 19.69 at the Australian Championships was faster than Bolt’s best U20 time of 19.93, and is only half a second off Bolt’s world record of 19.19, set at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin.
Comparing Bolt’s world record and Gout’s U20 record shows his potential. While Gout’s first half was slower, his final 50m was faster than Bolt’s. If Gout can get out of the blocks faster, the 200m world record could be in danger.
Tebogo’s back
The reigning Olympic champion had a difficult end to his 2025 season. At the 2025 World Championships, he missed the 200m podium, finishing fourth; he was later disqualified from the 100m final after a false start.
Still, he’s collected seven wins on the Diamond League circuit over the last two years, and anchored Team Botswana to world 4x400m gold.
