Warsaw girls basketball head coach Lenny Krebs has resigned after nine seasons leading the Tigers. Warsaw went 162-58 over nine seasons under Krebs, going all the way to the Class 4A state title game in 2025. The Tigers were 26-2 during the 2024-25 season and 24-3 this winter, when they won their fifth straight Northern Lakes Conference title. They spent much of the 2025-26 season ranked No. 1 in the IBCA all-classification poll.

Warsaw finished above .500 in each of Krebs’ nine seasons. 

Krebs informed the Warsaw players that he was stepping down on Wednesday morning. 

“I am not leaving to coach or teach anywhere else. I have poured out my life and my heart for you and this program for nine years, and I can’t do that anymore,” Krebs told the players. “You need someone to lead you who can devote the time required to give you what you need.”

Krebs, who also coached at Goshen from 2003 to 2017, is second in Warsaw program history in wins behind Will Wienhorst, who led the Tigers to 316 victories between 1987 and 2004. During his tenure Warsaw has had three Indiana Senior All-Stars: Brooke Winchester (2025) and Brooke Zartman and Joslyn Bricker (both 2026). 

Assistant coach Josh Fitzgerald will lead the team until a new head coach is selected. 

Krebs submitted the following resignation letter to the Warsaw Athletic Department:

Over the last 40 plus years, basketball has been a passion that has brought me so much joy

and given me opportunities I would not have otherwise experienced. From my days as a player,

to my time as a coach, I have poured my heart and soul into being the best I can be and trying

to push those around me to do the same. The game has taught me a lot about myself and

others. It has shown me my weaknesses as well as my strengths and as a result it has

continued to help mold me into the person I am today. I have been blessed to have been a head

coach for the last 23 years, including the last 9 at Warsaw Community High School. After a lot of

prayer and conversations with my family, I have decided it is time to step down as the head

coach of the Warsaw Lady Tigers.

I would like to thank Dr. Hoffert, Troy Akers and the entire administration at WCS for the

opportunity to lead this amazing program. Thank you to Dave Anson, Jeff Hamstra, Roman

Smith, Matt Binkerd and Michael Howk for your athletic leadership. In addition, I will forever be

thankful for Brenda Wright, Amy Burgh, Leslie Jackson, Shannon Ebbinghouse and Amie

Nelson for all they have done to help make the last 9 years an amazing experience for all

involved. A huge thank you to Roger Grossman for all he does to promote the Lady Tiger

basketball program and its players.

During my time as a head coach, I have been blessed with some amazing assistant coaches.

Thank you to Jack Beer, Jim Speicher, Kevin Bragg, Josh Fitzgerald and all the other assistant

coaches who have been a part of the journey.

A special thank you to Coach Moore, through a shared journey, we have developed a special

relationship few will understand. I admire and appreciate you more than you will ever know.

This journey would not have been possible without the amazing players who have come through

the program. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the Lady Tiger Basketball

program. I am proud of you and I love each and every one of you.

As anyone who has been a head coach knows, this profession is not a commitment from one

individual, it is a sacrifice from the entire family. To my wife, Angela, thank you for being by my

side throughout the entire journey. It takes a special person to be the spouse of a head coach

and you are that person. Thank you to my three children, Ashton, Kacilyn and Karson for your

unconditional love and support, as well as the sacrifices you have made to allow me to do this

job. I am excited to have more time to spend with each of you.

I am proud of all we have accomplished in my time at Warsaw, both on and off the court. I have

no doubt the program is in great shape for the next leader of the Lady Tiger girl’s basketball

program.

I am excited to see what God has in store for this next season of life. My prayer is that He will

open and close doors as He sees fit and that I will be obedient to follow wherever he leads.
