Wagon Wheel Theatre has scheduled auditions for upcoming productions of “Footloose” and “Carousel.”
Children are sought for “Carousel” with auditions at 5:30 p.m. May 2 for ages 11 to 14 and at 6:30 p.m. for ages 15 to 18.
The theater is seeking adults ages 30 and older for “Footloose” with auditions at 8 p.m. May 2.
Auditions are at Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts, 2515 E. Center St., Warsaw. Details are available at WagonWheelCenter.org.
The shows are part of the professional theater’s summer season. “Carousel” will run June 18 to 27, and “Footloose” is July 2 to 11.
City helps inspire song
A New Jersey band has released a single inspired by a songwriter’s family history in Fort Wayne.
Indie rock band Highland Cinema released “Closer (Fort Wayne, 1949)” on streaming platforms April 3. Writer Craig Arthur was inspired by a silent film of his grandparents’ 1949 wedding. It was shot outside what was then St. Andrew’s Church on New Haven Avenue.
“I was so moved after seeing the silent wedding day film, I initially thought it needed some music to it – and then I decided I should just make my own music for it,” Arthur says in a news release. “It was amazing to see my grandparents so young and before they had any kids. I was really able to relate to it and see myself and my wife in the video when thinking about our own wedding day.”
Patty and Butch Woehnker were lifelong Fort Wayne residents, according to the release. Arthur’s parents met in the city before moving east.
The song is the opening track on the band’s debut, full-length album, “LP1,” which is out now on streaming platforms. For more information, go to Highland-Cinema.com.
