Preliminary surveys for Friday storms show four confirmed tornadoes

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – The KTTC viewing saw severe weather move across the area on Friday, with several possible tornadoes moving through.

Those tornadoes have now been confirmed, with two of the five rated as EF-2s. As of now, those would be the highest-rated tornadoes from Friday.

The first EF-2 was present near Stewartville and Marion Township, and reached max wind speeds of 130 mph. This tornado was on the ground for about 14 minutes. The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office also noted Friday evening that several homes in this area were damaged by tornadoes.

This tornado traveled for about 9.7 miles.

The second EF-2 was in the Viola-Plainview area, and reached speeds of up to 125 mph. This tornado, too, was said to be on the ground for about 14 minutes, and traveled for about seven and a half miles.

Two other tornadoes were rated as an EF-0 and an EF-1. The EF-0 was in the Oslo area, and reached speeds of up to 80 mph. It was on the ground for about nine minutes and traveled for just less than 4 miles.

The EF-1 was northeast of Rochester in the Potsdam area and had the longest duration on the ground for about 24 minutes. It reached speeds of up to 100 mph and traveled for about 12 miles.

A fifth tornado was confirmed south of Hayfield and Oslo, though this one was also rated as an EF-0. It reached max wind speeds of 80 mph, and traveled for 3 miles.

This tornado was short-lived, only on the ground for about three minutes.

Despite the severity of Friday’s weather, these surveys show no reported deaths or injuries. However, these surveys are just preliminary, and more surveys are expected to be done on these storms and tornadoes.
