The LEGO Group and award-winning animation studio Aardman have premiered Boop, a five-minute animated short film developed from children’s stop-motion submissions created using LEGO bricks and the LEGO Play app. The film follows a lovable alien navigating a LEGO-built world in search of a way back to its clay-based home planet, with “plenty of mischief, creativity and friendship” along the way, all drawn from young builders’ ideas.
You can find the film here, along with lots of other supporting kid’s content.
The project builds on a challenge launched last year inviting kids to create their own ending to the Boop story using the app’s stop-motion studio. After months of development, that joint production debuts today.
Anna Rafferty, SVP of Digital Consumer Engagement at the LEGO Group, said, “To see the results of the collaboration between LEGO Insiders Club, Aardman and young builders is inspirational. This work puts storytelling and the joy of creation front and centre and embodies our commitment to inspiring the creators of tomorrow.”
“The response to the LEGO Play App stop-motion studio series and our lovable alien Boop has been phenomenal and inspirational,” said Sarah Cox, Chief Creative Director of Aardman. “We’ve seen lots of passionate engagement from young LEGO fans – and (hopefully!) future animators – whose ideas helped shape and influence the final film.”
Alongside the short film, the LEGO Insiders Club and Aardman have released additional interactive content including a behind-the-scenes documentary, build challenges, animation tips and quizzes. The initiative also extends to UK outreach programs, including collaboration with Young V&A, connecting with students from Tower Hamlets schools to attend the Inside Aardman: Wallace & Gromit and Friends exhibition, followed by a screening of the Boop film and a LEGO stop-motion workshop.
The LEGO Group, founded in 1932 and headquartered in Billund, Denmark, produces construction toys sold in more than 120 countries. Aardman, an employee-owned studio based in Bristol and founded in 1976, produces feature films, series, short films, advertising and interactive entertainment, and is known for characters including Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, Timmy Time and Morph.
Aardman will mark its 50th anniversary in 2026 with a series of events and the release of a new feature film, Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, scheduled for this autumn.
