The Danish Head of Delegation has confirmed that DR has held preliminary conversations about potentially hosting the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027.
Speaking to Ekstra Bladet, Erik Struve Hansen, confirmed that DR has had early discussions about potentially hosting the Eurovision Song Contest. The discussions are driven by Denmark being viewed as one of the favourites to take victory in Vienna, with Søren Torpegaard Lund with “Før vi går hjem”, currently in the top three with the bookmakers to take victory. Mr Struve Hansen told the paper that:
“It’s very hubristic to start planning something like that. But we have to. So of course we have talked to some of the places in Denmark that can host such events, and talked about the possibility. But it’s all written in pencil, because anything can happen
But it would be really annoying to be completely clueless about what we should do if it ends with a Danish victory. So of course we will keep it if we win. There are some who have asked if we want to. But of course we will, and of course there will also be somewhere that thinks it would be cool to put a framework in place if we end up in that situation.”
It is not unusual for broadcasters to hold preliminary discussions about hosting the next edition of the contest, should they be among the favourites for victory. With a small window to prepare for the contest, early discussions enable potential host cities or venues to look into requirements further and develop plans with more time than would normally be available.
Who is Søren Torpegaard Lund?
Søren Torpegaard Lund was born in Gudme on December 23, 1998 and grew up in the Svendborg Municipality in Southern Denmark.
He received his first trainings in theatre, dance, and music during his school years. At the age of 17 he was accepted to the Musicalakademiet, a branch of the Danish Stage Arts School, where he would graduate with a bachelor’s degree in 2019. From that moment on Søren Torpegaard Lund began working as a musical performer, most notably playing the lead role of Tony in West Side Story at the Copenhagen Opera House between 2021 and 2022.

Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest+
Denmark debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957 alongside Austria and the United Kingdom. To date, Denmark has won the contest on three occasions, the first being in 1963 when Grethe & Jorgen Ingmann performed “Dansevise”. Denmark won the contest again in 2000, represented by the Olsen Brothers. Their most recent victory came in 2013, when Emmelie de Forest performed “Only Teardrops”.
