Speedway GP newcomer Kacper Woryna is determined to make the most of teaming with Bartosz Zmarzlik in the PZM FIM Speedway World Cup Final after the six-time world champion was named as Polish captain.
Zmarzlik was confirmed as national team skipper at Poland’s training camp in Spain and is set to let his country into the world’s biggest track racing event at PGE Narodowy on August 29.
The Poles take on 2025 FIM Speedway of Nations world champions Australia, as well as the winners of FIM SWC Semi-Finals 1 and 2.
Woryna hopes to be part of a huge night of racing, and he admits joining forces with Zmarzlik is always a bonus.
He told PolskiZuzel.pl: “It’s definitely a huge benefit to be on the same team as a six-time world champion. I had the opportunity to experience this when we competed together in the Swedish league (for Lejonen).
“Just observing Bartek in the pits and on the track is very rewarding. We don’t have any ‘arrangements,’ but Bartek is always open to conversation and advice.”
Woryna may be making his Speedway GP debut this year, but he’s no stranger to racing on temporary tracks, having competed in Speedway European Championship rounds at Chorzow’s Silesian Stadium.
He hopes this will stand him in good stead if he’s called into action by Polish boss Stanislaw Chomski at PGE Narodowy.
He said: “This will be an absolutely unique event, and I think it could go down in Polish speedway history. A temporary track is always an unknown, but everyone will have the same conditions. I’ve already raced at the Silesian Stadium, so I have some experience with a one-day track. I wouldn’t call myself a specialist, but I don’t think other teams are either.
“The Polish team, however, is a specialist in winning, so we definitely have a good chance.”
Woryna would love to be called up for what would be one of the biggest meetings of his career so far and admits the chance of a call-up only spurs him on. He added: “The squad is deep, and the World Cup is taking place at a point in the season that will certainly make the selection process easier for the coach.
“Of course, I’d like to be included in that group, and I’ll work for it. For me, it’s more of an added motivation than a paralysis.
“The mere fact that I could be considered for such a start is already an honour. We all know what a responsibility it is, but it’s also a huge opportunity. Such challenges really give you wings.”
