Union Berlin came from two goals down to salvage a crucial draw against Köln, earning interim coach Marie-Louise Eta her first point and nudging the club towards safety.
As reported by BuLi News, Eta said her players gave everything, the equaliser revived the stadium and belief never wavered.
Eta made five changes from the 3-1 defeat to RB Leipzig on matchday 31. The decision to start the error-prone Stanley Nsoki ahead of all-rounder Leopold Querfeld drew scrutiny, which she answered by citing strong training displays and his contention to start.
Later introductions of Christopher Trimmel and Livan Burcu helped turn the tide. Eta was delighted for Burcu, the Türkiye U21 forward, after his first Bundesliga goal, noting his sharp finishing, control in the final third and how his impact reflected what he shows in training. The striker spent last season on loan at 2. Bundesliga side Magdeburg.
Union could be safe from relegation concerns before visiting former coach Urs Fischer’s Mainz next weekend if St. Pauli lose to Mainz and Wolfsburg fail to beat Freiburg on Sunday.
