“I’m not an astronaut!” — that’s what teacher and molecular biology professor Dr. Ryland Grace repeatedly insists in the trailer for Project Hail Mary — until it becomes clear he’s the one who’s supposed to save the world. Just in time for the film’s release in March, LEGO is launching the LEGO Icons set LEGO 11389 Project Hail Mary, which includes the first-ever Ryan Gosling minifigure along with one additional character.
The LEGO Project Hail Mary set (11389) from the Icons theme will be available starting March 1, 2026 — ahead of the film’s theatrical release on March 19 or March 20, depending on where you live. The 830-piece set has an RRP of $99.99 (US) / £99.99 / €109.99 and is available on LEGO.com for pre-order starting today. Below you’ll find everything you need to know about the set, along with all official images.
LEGO Project Hail Mary (11389): The details
The LEGO Project Hail Mary (11389) set is based on a scene from the Project Hail Mary movie, which is in turn based on Andy Weir’s 2021 novel Project Hail Mary. The title — which also lends its name to the spacecraft — refers to a high-risk forward pass in American football. Similar to the LEGO Star Wars The Onyx Cinder (75374) set, which LEGO released about four months before the associated series launched in December 2024, the Project Hail Mary model offers a sneak peek at the film without giving too much away.
The protagonist’s spacecraft is built from 830 pieces and includes a display stand with a name plaque. Also included is a small side build — a mini diorama for the two characters from the movie — which can be displayed either on its own or alongside the ship.
The clip-on spacecraft model can apparently be positioned in multiple ways on the base, and LEGO has even added a Technic play feature operated via a crank on the stand. Turn the crank and an axle inside the display base rotates, moving the small integrated satellite at the top of the ship. The mechanism is somewhat reminiscent of another space-themed LEGO set — the LEGO Technic Sun Earth Moon Model (42179).
To display the set on a shelf, you’ll need an area about 22 cm (8.7 in) wide and 30 cm (12 in) tall.

Movie characters as figures
The set includes a minifigure of Dr. Ryland Grace, the protagonist played by Ryan Gosling, plus a brick-built figure of “Rocky,” the alien already teased in the trailer. Unlike the astronaut, Rocky is built from a handful of standard elements — similar to a LEGO Star Wars droid — including some printed parts.
Ryland Grace also appears to have a double-sided face, as official images show him both with and without glasses. The set also includes a few minifigure accessories and a printed tile, serving as tools for the astronaut.
Comparison with the original movie
Even though we only have the trailer so far, let’s try to compare the set and its figures with what we’ve seen on screen.
Grace’s red spacesuit features printing on both the torso and legs and stays very close to the on-screen design — though the “NASA” logo seen in the film is missing on the LEGO version.
Judging by the scenes shown in the trailer, the overall shape of the spacecraft has been captured well. However, the solar panels on the LEGO model are a bit shorter, and due to the scale, not every detail could be recreated exactly. The round green Technic element underneath the ship is a bit distracting against the otherwise black-and-white model — but in return, you do get a functional Technic feature.
What are your first impressions of the LEGO Project Hail Mary (11389) set? Have you seen the trailer — and based on what we can tell so far, do you think the model and figures are well executed? Is this the kind of set that could end up in your shopping cart? Let us know in the comments!
