A ferry operator has announced it is buying a ferry it is currently cratering, and plans to change its name.
DFDS currently charters the Stena Vinga passenger and freight ferry from Swedish operator Stena Line, and it will continue to operate between Jersey, the UK and France when the purchase is completed in November.
The vessel has been part of the company’s Jersey fleet since the service started in March 2025 and will be reflagged under the UK flag.
Mathieu Girardin, head of DFDS’s ferry division said the addition “further strengthens our fleet resilience”.
He added: “The ferry has proven to be a good fit for Jersey and has performed well during the charter period.
“Bringing it into our owned fleet is a natural step which supports our long‑term operations and commitment to serving Jersey.”
DFDS said it would also be “renamed to fit with DFDS’ existing fleet”.
The 125m (410ft) ferry can carry up to 400 passengers and 200 cars, and has a freight capacity of 1,500 lane metres.
The ferry was built in 2005 and is equipped with 40 cabins, a restaurant, a duty-free shop, a cinema and a recliner lounge.
