A fresh Norwegian pledge strengthens Ukraine’s air-defense purchases through PURL, while Kyiv highlights Norway as the largest contributor to the program.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the total amount of aid from Norway under the PURL program amounts to over $1.2 billion – the largest contribution among participating countries.

“Today there is an important step of support from Norway – about $300 million to the PURL program. This is an important program, thanks to which we can purchase in the United States anti-ballistic missiles that are in short supply. Every day we need adequate protection from the treacherous Russian shelling. And I am grateful to Norway for its leadership and real support. The total amount of aid from Norway under PURL is already more than $1.2 billion. This is the largest contribution among all countries that have joined the program”

He also personally thanked Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre for his contribution to PURL.

According to the president, they recently met with the Prime Minister – they discussed the importance of PURL and the need to supply equipment for our air defense; there is now a concrete decision, and Zelensky thanks for helping protect the lives of Ukrainians.

On Wednesday, May 6, Norway announced providing Ukraine 2.8 billion Norwegian kroner (over $300 million) through the NATO initiative to procure American weapons called the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL).
